Sacred Food Spoke

Loretta Afraid of Bear Cook takes the viewer through the traditional preparation of food used by the Oceti Sakowinin in “Sacred Food Spoke.” The food used for ceremonies, such as the Sun Dance, which happens once a year, must be gathered with their season and stored or prepared prior to being able to be used.

We see Loretta teaching a group of young people how to process and prepare buffalo and chokecherries for year round use. The sacred relationship of food as good medicine is shared and demonstrated through the teachings presented in this intimate interview.
